Just when the great tales have been laid to rest, the artist declared dead and the world fragmented, storytelling starts to make a comeback. And the greatest of the stories is globalisation.
Once upon a time there was a world, which was divided into three parts. Of these the part on the left was called ‘the west’ and the part on the right ‘the east’, although in fact the eastern part was the one on the left. These two parts of the world were at war with each other, since each was convinced of the superiority of its own social system. The third part of the world was simply called ‘the third world’, and was of no particular importance, since it was very poor. Then the east,or at least the most significant part of it, suddenly collapsed. The bits that remained became part of the third world. As technological development progressed all the world’s parts began to acquire more and more information on each other. The Internet and supranational television companies transmitted news and entertainment to the furthest corners of the world, and the same brand names were on sale everywhere. People were at last equal. The world no longer needed to be divided into parts, but became a village in which everyone lived happily ever after.
