I remember a tram ride when we were passing the new museum under construction, and two elderly ladies said that "oh yes, it was in the newspaper, it will be pink." A little later there was a pair of tourists behind me, one of them saying again and again in sophisticated British English, "Oh, I do hate this, let us go home..." until we reached the new museum and his despair turned to enthusiasm: "Hey, what's that?" When his weary companion explained that it was still under construction, his mood sunk once again.
One more tram journey. A group of beery football fans were making their way home after a game. One of them said: "Well, there it is then." "What?" "Haven't you seen it? They're building it over there." "Where? I don't see a thing!" "We've already passed it!"
In this issue it is time to end this 'to be or not to be' discussion. Instead, we'll see what Chiasma has to offer in May when it opens to football fans as well as ladies dreaming about pink houses. Exhibitions, the theatre, and museum education will reveal bits of their future programme. The situation is never stable, new authors come, and earlier plans will be adjusted, but one thing is certain at this point: there will be life - and art - flourishing within those zinc walls. Chiasma will also be seen in the spring media. Here's the theme: Find out!
